Originally from Germany, I have called the Cayman Islands home for more than 12 years. My journey into teaching followed a long career in science, having worked for over 10 years as a Biomedical Scientist/Laboratory Technologist. With a degree in Biotechnology and extensive practical laboratory experience, I love being able to bring real-world science into my teaching and help students understand how the concepts they learn in the classroom connect to the world around them.
After completing my PGCE through the University of Sunderland, I gained experience teaching and supporting students in both international school and Montessori environments in the Cayman Islands. I have taught Science across a range of topics and particularly enjoy creating hands-on, engaging lessons that encourage students to ask questions, investigate ideas, and develop their own understanding.
I believe Science becomes much more accessible when students understand the “why” behind what they are learning. My approach is patient and encouraging, and I enjoy breaking challenging concepts into manageable steps while adapting lessons to suit each learner. My goal is to build confidence as well as subject knowledge and to help students become curious, independent learners.
As a native German speaker, I also offer German tutoring. I enjoy supporting students with speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar, while helping them become increasingly comfortable using the language in everyday situations. Lessons can be adapted to a student’s current level, and individual goals.
Outside of education and science, I enjoy spending time with my family, scuba diving, travelling, and being around animals. I particularly enjoy exploring the natural world, which often provides inspiration for bringing Science to life for my students.
